The Campos GP2 team has signed former F1 driver and GP2 race winner Giorgio Pantano and Vitaly Petrov, who raced for DPR at the end of last year, for the 2007 season. Meanwhile, Durango have signed Spanish driver Borja Garcia. Garcia last raced in GP2 for Racing Engineering in 2005, before switching to World Series by Renault in 2006. Clivio Piccione has been linked to the other Durango seat.


Veteran engineer Frank Dernie has left the Williams team. Dernie, who also worked for Lotus, Ligier, Benetton, Arrows and Lola, returned to Williams in 2003 to boost the technical staff.


Fernando Alonso set the pace for McLaren on the first day of testing at Valencia yesterday. Kimi Räikkönen was second quickest for Ferrari, with Nelson Piquet Jr third quickest for Renault. Toyota, BMW Sauber and Honda were also testing.
