Former World Champion Jacques Villeneuve has some strong words for the 2007 F1 grid in this month’s F1 Racing but it’s hard to argue with many of his points.

On Giancarlo Fisichella:

He’s there as a benchmark for Heikki, and then at the end of the season, or even halfway through, they’ll put Nelson Piquet Jr in the car.

This is, admittedly, something of a no-brainer - Nelsinho is just sitting in the Renault motorhome waiting for Fisi to cock it up (again).

On Mark Webber:

Someone decided one day that he was great, and everyone believed it. But why? Nobody knows.

This bemuses me too, because people speak about Webber sometimes as if he’s the Second Coming, occasionally justifying it on the basis of that 6th place for Minardi…

On Tonio Liuzzi:

You just wonder how long he spent in front of the mirror to make sure his hat was tilted exactly far enough to look cool.

Oh yes. It is an enduring mystery to me how Liuzzi has managed to retain his STR seat.

JV has some nice things to say too, some quite surprising. Well worth a read.
