Living as I do in one of the more picturesque parts of England, my drive home from work during the summer months is plagued by tourists meandering along country lanes at 15 mph, while I sit behind them seething and wishing my car was fitted with a rocket launcher. I imagine Rubens Barrichello felt much the same as he sat behind Jenson Button lap after lap in Melbourne today, looking desperately for a way to overtake while the driver of the car in front admired the scenery and perhaps took a few photos.
Kimi Raikkonen won the first race of the 2007 season in dominating fashion, but today was all about Lewis Hamilton, who finished third in his first ever F1 race. It was an impressive performance from the rookie, who matched the relentless pace of teammate Fernando Alonso only to lose out on pitstops.
Nico Rosberg also had an impressive race, dragging the Williams up to a seventh place finish with a spectacular pass on Ralf Schumacher. Teammate Alex Wurz was less fortunate; the Austrian was taken out by David Coulthard.
