Felipe Massa was unsurprisingly quickest in first practice for this weekend’s Malaysian GP, with the weekend already looking like another Ferrari/McLaren battle with Fernando Alonso second quickest followed by respective teammates Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Räikkönen. Nico Rosberg was fifth quickest for Williams, with former teammate Mark Webber sixth for Red Bull.
Tonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed were on track for Scuderia Toro Rosso, despite the team still being under investigation by the stewards following a protest by Spyker over the legality of their 2007 car. According to F1Live, Spyker have detailed drawings of the 2007 Toro Rosso car with ‘Red Bull Racing’ (as opposed to Red Bull Technology, the “third party” company which employs designer Adrian Newey) logos clearly visible…
Giedo van der Garde is apparently following the example of Christijan Albers when it comes to securing a Spyker drive - make sure your father-in-law is a financial backer of the team. F1Live is reporting that Dutch entrepreneur and investor Marcel Boekhoorn has bought a 5.7% stake in Spyker Cars - and van der Garde just happens to be dating Boekhoorn’s daughter. Albers, of course, married Liselore Kooijman, the daughter of Spyker backer Roel Kooijman.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI hope it will be an open Grand Prix, and not a race where Ferrari run into the distance, leaving the McLarens and then all the other teams to fight it out behind them.
Still, it’s early days for the race and the season.
