Lewis Hamilton’s second place in Barcelona was enough to put him into the lead of the World Championship, becoming the youngest driver to do so since Bruce McLaren. However, perhaps of more interest was how Felipe Massa’s win - and his effusive thanks to Michael Schumacher in the process - will affect team politics at Ferrari.
Kimi Räikkönen left the circuit early after exiting the race and nowhere was his absence more noticeable than in the team photos taken after the race, when the casual observer might have thought for a moment it was 2006 all over again as Massa and Schumacher celebrated together. Massa, of course, is managed by Jean Todt’s son Nicolas, and has been involved with Ferrari for a long time, and there’s no outward sign that Kimi is shaping the team around him as Michael did. It will be fascinating to see how this one plays out.
Honda test driver James Rossiter has been transfered to sister team Super Aguri.
“I am really pleased to be joining the Super Aguri F1 team as their test driver and look forward to getting to know the team over the next few weeks,†said Rossiter. “This is a great opportunity for me and it will be good to get into the SA07 at the Paul Ricard test on Tuesday and start to help the team with their development programme.
Sakon Yamamoto is Super Aguri’s other test driver.
