Ralf Schumacher was busy propping up his ailing F1 career yesterday, setting the fastest time on the first day of this week’s Silverstone test. Pedro de la Rosa was second quickest for McLaren, with Red Bull’s Mark Webber third and Renault’s Heikki Kovalainen fourth. Honda and Super Aguri opted to test at Jerez instead with reserve drivers Christian Klien and James Rossiter.
The GP2 mid-season test kicked off at Paul Ricard yesterday, with some changes in driver line-up. Michael Ammermüller returns to ART following his wrist injury and Antonio Pizzonia appears to have been replaced at FMS by returnee Ernesto Viso. Sergio Hernandez replaces Sergio Jimenez at Racing Engineering but it’s not clear whether this will be permanent, while Dutch driver Henki Waldschmidt temporarily substituted for Kazuki Nakajima at DAMS while the Japanese driver was carrying out his F1 testing duties at Silverstone.
Andreas Zuber was fastest in the morning, with iSport teammate Timo Glock second and Giorgio Pantano third for Campos. Zuber repeated the feat in the afternoon, however Glock had been called up for F1 duties with BMW leaving Pantano second quickest with Javi Villa third for Racing Engineering.
