If any more evidence was needed that the beleaguered Michael Ammermueller is out of favour at Red Bull, Sebastien Buemi is testing for the team at Jerez instead of the German driver. Buemi has already replaced Ammermueller at the ART GP2 team.
Meanwhile, BMW driver Sebastien Vettel is apparently being lined up to replace Scott Speed at Toro Rosso for the Hungaroring, after an eventful European Grand Prix for the American driver and his public voicing of his dissatisfaction.
“Vettel is a meaningful alternative for us, but he needs a test before he races,” [Gerhard Berger] confirmed, “It would make no sense to throw him in at the deep end.”
Speed’s teammate Tonio Liuzzi didn’t escape the team’s ire: Berger insists there was no technical failure that contributed to Liuzzi’s early exit at the Nurburgring.
“There were extremely difficult conditions at the Nürburgring, and these accidents can happen, but we were once again the only team that lost both cars through accidents - and that is unacceptable,” he said, “We checked the systems on Liuzzi’s car and all was in order. He just stood full on the gas as he exited the pits and the extra power was too much for the conditions.”
Happy days…
