Lewis Hamilton took pole position for tomorrow’s Australian Grand Prix ahead of BMW’s Robert Kubica in a dramatic qualifying session for the first race of the 2008 season. Hamilton’s McLaren teammate Heikki Kovalainen was third.

94096.jpgPre-season favourite Kimi Raikkonen will start 16th after fuel pressure problems put him out of the session during the first qualifying segment, while Renault had a disastrous qualifying - Fernando Alonso moving up to 11th after Timo Glock was demoted from his 9th place, and rookie Nelsinho Piquet starting from 21st.


Team GBR’s Oliver Jarvis set the fastest time in practice for this weekend’s A1GP race in Mexico, ahead of Switzerland’s Neel Jani and Ireland’s Adam Carroll. Michael Ammermüller returns for Team Germany, so it remains to be seen how many people he manages to punt off this time round.
