Ferrari’s Felipe Massa took the victory in the European GP at Valencia today, but the win came in controversial circumstances after Massa was released from his pitstop into the path of Force India driver Adrian Sutil. The incident was investigated after the race and Massa was reprimanded, with Ferrari being fined 10,000 euros.
Lewis Hamilton finished second for McLaren, with BMW’s Robert Kubica third. The race was marked by a distinct lack of overtaking.
Reigning World Champion Kimi Raikkonen had a race to forget: after injuring one of his mechanics during a botched pitstop his engine expired on lap 46. Local hero Fernando Alonso also suffered misfortune, retiring on the first lap after being hit by Williams driver Kazuki Nakajima.
