McLaren will appeal the 25 second penalty handed to Lewis Hamilton at Spa which dropped him from first to third. A hearing of the FIA’s International Court of Appeal will decide on the matter.

Pastor Maldonado took a last-gap win in the GP2 sprint race this morning, as Bruno Senna failed to capitilise on the absence of the excluded Giorgio Pantano. An eventful race saw a number of crashes, including those of Mike Conway and Andy Soucek.

Lewis Hamilton took pole position for tomorrow’s Belgian Grand Prix at Spa this afternoon, ahead of Ferrari’s Felipe Massa and McLaren teammate Heikki Kovalainen. The under-pressure Sebastien Bourdais outqualified teammate Sebastian Vettel; the two Toro Rosso drivers finishing ninth and tenth quickest.
