Lewis Hamilton was fastest in first practice for this weekend’s Japanese GP at Fuji, ahead of Felipe Massa and Heikki Kovalainen. Renault and Toro Rosso were also running well, with both drivers inside the top ten, but the Honda and Toyota drivers were all languishing towards the bottom of the timesheet. Honda driver Rubens Barrichello may not continue with the team for 2009.

“There is a lot of silence at Honda right now and I think this is tiresome,” he said. “I’ve never been in a situation like this, without a contract for next year this late in the season.”

Barrichello is the most experienced driver currently in F1, having started his career with Jordan in 1993.


Kamui Kobayashi continued his impressive form in the second day of GP2 Asia testing yesterday, finishing fastest in every session. The DAMS driver finished ahead of ART driver Sakon Yamamoto and Piquet driver Roldan Rodriguez.Newly crowned F3 Euroseries champion Nico Hülkenberg will contest two rounds of the GP2 Asia championship in preparation for a full GP2 season in 2009, replacing Nelson Philippe at ART.
