Team Ireland’s Adam Carroll and Switzerland’s Neel Jani took sprint and feature race victories respectively in Taupo, as Ireland maintained their lead of the 2008/09 A1GP championship. Carroll, who had initially led the feature race, fell behind Jani with a pitlane mishap.
Ireland are now 13 points ahead of Switzerland, with Portugal third.
Reigning F3 Euroseries champion Nico Hülkenberg made his GP2 race debut at this weekend’s GP2 Asia Bahrain meeting, but the ART driver was unable to translate pole position into a podium in either of the two races. Series leader Kamui Kobayashi (Dams) won the feature race, while Sergio Perez took a first win in the sprint race. Kobayashi leads the championship from Davide Valsecchi and Roldan Rodriguez.
