Reigning F3 Euroseries champion Nico Hulkenberg won today’s GP2 race in Qatar, the first night race the series has run. Hulkenberg lost his pole advantage at the start, which was mired by a huge crash involving Sakon Yamamoto and Yelmer Buurman, but drove a superb race to clinch the victory.

Sebastien Bourdais has finally been confirmed at Toro Rosso alongside rookie Sebastien Buemi for the 2009 F1 season. The former Champ Car champion faced months of uncertainty as the team tested the likes of Takuma Sato for the drive.

Team Ireland’s Adam Carroll and Switzerland’s Neel Jani took sprint and feature race victories respectively in Taupo, as Ireland maintained their lead of the 2008/09 A1GP championship. Carroll, who had initially led the feature race, fell behind Jani with a pitlane mishap.
Ireland are now 13 points ahead of Switzerland, with Portugal third.

Ron Dennis has stepped down as team principal of the McLaren F1 team. Head of operations Martin Whitmarsh will take on Dennis’s role.

The BBC have confirmed their commentary team for the 2009 F1 season. ITV stalwart Martin Brundle will be joined in the commentary box by Jonathan Legard, with Ted Kravitz and Lee McKenzie reporting from the pitlane. David Coulthard and Eddie Jordan will provide opinion.

Adam Carroll put Team Ireland at the top of the A1GP series standings with an emphatic feature race win at Sepang today, ahead of Filipe Albuquerque (Portugal) and Marco Andretti (USA).
Neel Jani won the sprint race for Team Switzerland ahead of Loic Duval (France) and Earl Bamber (New Zealand).
