Team Ireland and Team Great Britain start from pole position for the sprint and feature races respectively at the Chengdu circuit for the second round of the 2008/09 A1GP season.
Adam Carroll took sprint race pole for Ireland after the second segment of qualifying was cancelled following Edoardo Piscopo’s excursion, thanks to the marshals taking a inordinate amount of time to remove the stranded car. Robert Doornbos starts from second in his first race for Team Netherlands.
Another series debutante, Danny Watts, took pole for the feature race, with Carroll alongside.
Colin Kolles and Mike Gascoyne have
left the Force India F1 team, in a major reshuffle that coincides with the team
moving from Ferrari power to Mercedes. Owner Vijay Mallya takes over the running of the team, with design director Mark Smith and technical director James Key sharing responsibility on the technical side.
“I would like to thank Colin Kolles for his tireless efforts in keeping such a small team alive and to Mike Gascoyne for bringing his wealth of technical expertise,” said Mallya. “Both have played an instrumental part in making the team what it is today. On Monday November 10th, I will announce the new technical direction of the team as well as the appointment of a new Chief Operating Officer who will assume overall responsibility for our Silverstone and Brackley facilities, Race and Test operations.”
